I'm Joanna and I'm a floral painter, born and raised in the midwest. I studied painting at the University of Nebraska and minored in Art History.

If I wasn't a painter, I would be a mermaid. There's really nothing more freeing than being in water. I actually worked as a swim instructor for a few years! My journey as an instructor later guided me towards teaching preschool, until my husband and I moved to El Paso. That's when I pursued a full time career as an artist.

El Paso influenced and shaped my work, along with my admiration of female artists like Georgia O'Keeffe.

In 2018, after moving back home to Nebraska, I was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia; a rare disease where the body stops producing new blood cells.

I went through chemo and then received a bone marrow transplant. Now I'm in remission!

I am so humbled and grateful for those who cared for me during that time, as well as the person who donated bone marrow, so I could be well again.

Although doctors claimed I may not be able to have children, on July 9th, 2021, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Indie.

It's been a whirlwind of a journey and I'm still getting the hang of being a new mom.

When I'm not painting, I'm doing the mom thing with a cup of coffee in my hand. Or I'm hanging out with my other baby, our dog Cooper. You could also find me painting elaborate designs on my nails or hands deep in potting soil- caring for my ever-growing collection of plants.
